This could be one of my favorite projects so far this year.  I was trying to figure out a good way to introduce art history into my classroom and I thought that if I threw in something that that they could relate to they would enjoy it more.  Students randomly drew artist out of a cup of a list I pre-selected.  Once they had their artist we went to the computer lab and started our research.  The student had to find  5 facts, 3 quotes, a profile picture and a cover photo.  After they had their information we went through and blocked out what the facebook page would look like and then the students used oil pastels, color pencils, and markers to draw and color the cover photo.  These all turned out great and they all learned something new about each artist.  And before they graded them I had them tell me an extra fact that wasn't on the art project.

The first grade just got done with working with tempera paint pumpkins.  They spent the first day painting the pumpkins and the second day decorating the background with white crayon and then painting them black.  They loved how the shapes appeared once they added the black paint.

Planets with 6th Grade

The 6th graders have just finished this project.  We talked about abstract art first and we did a large abstract painting.  The next week we came back and used compasses to create circles on the back of the work and then cut them out, glued them to the black paper and used oil pastels to create the stars.  I think the students enjoyed this project a lot.

WIP ceiling tiles

The Art Club is working on their ceiling tiles right now here are some WIPs of their work (Works in Progress)

Kandinsky Circles

We tried a new approach to working with Kandinsky.  We did abstract paintings on large paper and then we cut them down to circles.  The students seemed to really enjoy the abstract aspect of this project.

Gum Ball Machine

The 2nd graders did these today.  They turned out pretty well.  I let them have creative control over what they did in the background and I loved what they came up with.

5th Grade Profiles

I found this project on another art blog earlier this year but I can not remember what site it was.  For this project 5th graders traced out their face to get their profile and then we separated the face and in each section we filled it with a pattern and then cut it out and glued it down to construction paper.  They all turned out great.

4th Grade Names

This year we learned how to write out names in bubble letters.  Once that was complete we filled the letters with patterns with markers and then colored the background with crayons.

2nd Grade Shapes

Here are the 2nd graders project with working with abstract shapes along with line patterns.

6th Grade Shading

This is a project I did after I worked with the 7th Grade and their shading.  We created this with drawing the numbers 1-5, each number had to be rotated so they we all at different angles then where each number overlapped we did our grayscale.  After that we cut them out and glued them down to construction paper.  They look great in the hall.

Blending Pumpkins 3rd grade

This was a new project I tried out this year with my 3rd Grade class.  We started with learning how to draw a pumpkin and then we talked about blending colors and what colors would be good to use for a pumpkin.  We colored the top Yellow and the bottom Red and after that we colored the whole pumpkin orange making sure to use our muscles and color really hard to get the good color.  The overall reaction was great and same with the pumpkins I couldn't be more pumped about how these turned out.

Airplanes and Rainbows

For this 1st Grade Project I taught the students how to draw an airplane and then using our color wheel we created this rainbow.  This was a great project to touch upon our color wheel in a fun way.
